I have developed a comprehensive guide to help artists pronounce German correctly, even if they don’t know the language at all. It is important to me that not only is learning done, but that the people I work with – I deliberately don’t say students, because we work at eye level – come out of their lessons with a wealth of experience that strengthens them and takes them further.
Often the task, such as: to play a musical or opera role in German, even though you don’t speak the language, is like a big mountain in front of performers.
To take away people’s fears, to constructively work on the roles / arias / songs in terms of language and content and to have fun with texts is my goal.
This also applies to singing lessons and voice training. People come to me, who work in completely different professional fields and have not had any experience with finding their voice and breathing yet. Helping them to strengthen their voice, to discover new voice colours and to use their breath sensibly and effectively is of great concern to me.
Some of them sing a song for the first time in my lessons as an adult – these are emotional moments that I would not want to miss.
Curriculum Vitae
My roots are in Hamburg where I grew up. I studied concert singing and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Hamburg.
Later I had engagements at Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Thalia-Theater Hamburg, Kammerspiele Berlin, Hansa-Theater Berlin, Schillertheater Berlin and Freie Volksbühne Berlin.
Since 1992 freelance work in teaching and concert singing, since 2012 phonetics coach at the VBW Vienna.
